We had the great pleasure of having our friends Simon and Erin visit us in Seattle. We lived two boats down from them in San Diego so were looking forward to exploring this strange new place to us that had trees and snow!
We decided to go north to Bellingham for a few days while they were in town because we had all heard it was a great mix of ocean and mountains which is always our ideal location.
We rented a house on Lake Whatcom, just east of Bellingham to have a few days to explore the region. Being just a few hours north of Seattle, Bellingham is an easy place to visit and perfect for escaping the city to truly be immersed among the trees, mountains and ocean.
Bellingham is the type of place you don’t hear about and then once you go you can’t stop hearing about! The quality of life there truly seems perfect. Within just a few minutes of the beautiful downtown you could manage to sail in the summer, ski in the winter and hike in the spring and fall. In fact, just after viewing the boats along the shore we made a short drive up to the mountains where we went on a fantastic remote hike around Mount Baker.
It will always be one of the finest places we visit and one of my favorite spots in our beautiful country.
