The park, the site of an old gasification plant, offers spectacular views via a large, steep, grassy hill in the middle of the park from which you can see the Olympic Mountains to the West and the Cascade Mountains to the east.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit quite a few national parks and without a doubt Olympic National Park is my favorite.
To celebrate my 30th birthday I took a week off of work and Molly and I took a road trip to Vancouver, Victoria and Olympic National Park.
“When I first moved here twenty years ago I felt like I could take that ferry every day and be amazed. But after a while, I started using the ferry rides to sneak in a good nap in the car just like all the other locals.”
I’ve hiked in the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Appalachians, the Sierras and the Rockies and for me, the view from the top of the Skyline Divide Trail is the most overwhelmingly pretty scene I’ve ever seen.
Bellingham is the type of place you don’t hear about and then once you go you can’t stop hearing about! The quality of life there truly seems perfect.
The Puget Sound is great to explore, the two lakes are some of the best on-the-water experiences you can have in the world and though a powerboat was odd to get used to for us sailors (well one of us at least), cranking up the engine and doing 40 knots down the coast was pretty awesome.
