Doing as the locals do, we spent many evenings in Seattle sitting on a blanket in Gas Works Park overlooking the beautiful Lake Union and Seattle skyline.
The park, the site of an old gasification plant, offers spectacular views via a large, steep, grassy hill in the middle of the park from which you can see the Olympic Mountains to the West and the Cascade Mountains to the east.
We liked to walk to the park from our apartment, just 30 minutes away, bringing some wine, sandwiches for dinner and blanket to sit on. We’d watch the families with small children exploring the grassy hillside, people with their dogs running around and look out over the lake at the small sailboats sailing in unison for their evening race.
